Universal Pictures has optioned Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici’s creator-owned series Oblivion Song as a feature film. Published by Image Comics under Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment imprint, Oblivion Song will be adapted by Sean O’Keefe, who wrote the upcoming film Wonderland.

“A decade ago 300,000 citizens of Philadelphia were suddenly lost in Oblivion. The government made every attempt to recover them but after many years they gave up. Nathan Cole… won’t,” reads the comic book’s synopsis. “He makes daily trips, risking his life to try and rescue those lost, alone and afraid, living in the apocalyptic hellscape of Oblivion. But maybe… Nathan is looking for something else? Why can’t he resist the siren call of the Oblivion Song?”

No release date has been announced for the project, however Skybound’s VP of Online Content says “as always, these things can take a while, and we for sure want to get it right! We’ll have more info as the project develops and we can share it.”

Oblivion Song #16 hits shelves this Wednesday.
