At Saturday’s Star Trek: Discovery series panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con International, several key announcements were made about the CBS All Access show’s upcoming third season. David Ajala (The Dark Knight) will be a new series regular, playing a new character named Cleveland Booker, a.k.a. Book. According to the panel, he has a tendency to break the rules.
Executive producer Alez Kurtzman also revealed that Discovery season three will time-jump 1,000 years into the future from season two. There will be lots of huge changes this season, with things viewers will and will not recognize. Kurtzman said the fun of getting to a place of preserving optimism is by testing it; however, the series will always be Star Trek the way Gene Roddenberry wanted it.
Series star Sonequa Martin-Green also revealed that the cast got to shoot Star Trek: Discovery season three in Iceland, and that while they became a cohesive family during season two, they were able to solidify their bonds in season three.
